Split
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project reimagines a poster for the psychological thriller Split, focusing on the film’s central concept of fractured identity and the coexistence of multiple personalities within a single character. My aim for this design was to visually communicate the psychological complexity and tension of the film while maintaining a minimal, clean composition that emphasizes concept over clutter. The main character’s dissociative identities are represented through overlapping facial expressions, each representing a distinct personality existing within one individual. I thought by layering the faces on top of one another, I could communicate a sense of instability, internal conflict, and the blurred boundaries between identities, which are all themes that are essential to the narrative.
IDEATION
Below are brainstorms of themes, tone, and visual strategy during early conceptual development:
Themes: Fragmented identity | Psychological turmoil | Internal conflict | Transformation | Unpredictability
Tone: suspenseful | dark | unsettling yet controlled | quietly intense
Visual Strategy:
Minimal composition — clean layout that directs attention to the central graphicMonochromatic palette — black & white tones for strong contrast and to convey a sense of seriousnessCentralized focal point — one main visual that encompasses the idea of the film
